Comi-Con Day 0.5: Preview Night
Day one-ish of Comic-Con 2012, also known as preview night, needless to say it has been exciting, exhausting, fantastic, and can we say a little played out. What? Maybe I spoke to soon, but lets be honest Comic-Con has started to be over run by more of CW’s latest batch of teen heart throbs selling teen angst and sexuality instead of originality. The Twilight cultist lined up days in advance, and MTV stepping in with their own series to try and corner yet another market. Lets also not forget to mention the jailbait with absurdly large… uhm, large bits not able to fit in their overly simplified costumes.
Now don’t get me wrong we’re not saying we’re unhappy for this but beware of the sleazy 30 something’s shoving you aside to get grimaces of Wonder Girls goodies. These are possibly the rants of a Comic-Con old timer but back in my day when Comic-Con was filled with the good old boys. Those stench ridden, oddly disproportionate, man dude bro guys, grunting to get their sweaty palms on this years limited edition Con figures. Sadly, or optimistically, this is no longer the scene it once was. The Comic-Con I use to know and love now exists only in bad 480p videos and lowers pixelated images somewhere on my ageing 250GB external hard drive. Again, this is only preview night so lets pray that the rest of the week will challenge my current prejudice views and not keep my criticisms come to fruition. My only fear is that the community at large has been either swayed away from the Con or the tween masses obsessed with the fading fades and slowly ending franchises have brought an end to a once beautiful thing.
