Hardcore Characters Are Hard: Man Dies After Playing Diablo III For 40 Hours
[dropcap]E[/dropcap]gmnow reported that an 18 yeard old man from Taiwan has died while playing Diablo III for 40 hours straight. Apparently the man is only known by his surname Chuang.
Chuang entered an internet cafe on a Friday and claimed a private room. There he played D3 non stop, with no food, no water, and no sleep. That following Sunday an employee went to check up on Chuang and found him with his face on the keys. The employee went to stir him awake. At that moment Chuang stood up, took a few steps, and collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital where later he died.
It sounds crazy right? I didn’t believe it myself until Blizzard released a press statement:
“We’re saddened to hear this news, and our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. We don’t feel it would be appropriate for us to comment further without knowing all of the circumstances involved.”
“While we recognize that it’s ultimately up to each individual or their parent or guardian to determine playing habits, we feel that moderation is clearly important, and that a person’s day-to-day life should take precedence over any form of entertainment.”
The cause of death is still undetermined; although, the speculation is that he died from a blood clot. This is based off a similar incident that happened last year. A 20 year old man in the UK named Chris Staniworth was playing his Xbox 360 for an obscene amount of time and developed a bloodclot which killed him.
