Nokia Moved To ‘Junk’ Category

Have you been looking into investing into Nokia, well according to S.&P. (Standard & Poor) it wouldn’t be such a wise idea, given that they just moved Nokia’s Bonds to ‘Junk’ status. Junk status in lamense terms means a non-investment bond; here is the exact definition if you want to take a look at it. S.&P.  claims that the company’s profit margin only fell short of Nokia’s expectations because of the sales of Nokia’s phones that had Lee Williams infamous Symbian OS bestowed upon them.

Coincidentally Samsung knocked Nokia off of it’s pedestal as the number one cell phone manufacturer, this includes smartphones and traditional cellphones, as this was happening.  If we just look at smart phone sales Apples is first, leaving Samsung to steal second, and to watch Nokia drop all the way down to third right ahead of RIM. Will Nokia’s Lumia series allow for a reclaiming of the throne as number one cell phone manufacturer?  Well, according to S.&P. it won help Nokia recover as quickly as they may hope.

Nokia Lumia 900 Releases April 9th: Finally

There has been lots of speculation about a possible April 8th-9th release date well now it’s official. AT&T released a statement saying the Lumia 900 will be available April 9th. I for one am relieved I thought I would have my hands on this phone last year, either way its 13 days away and if you want one I suggest you make plans to wait in line. The phone will be offered in Cyan Blue & Black Matte. This will be Nokia’s first LTE phone on AT&T’s network; Nokia and Microsoft are all in on this phone to be a success. The phone comes with a 4.3-inch ClearBlack display, 1.4GHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM and an 8-megapixel rear facing camera with an f/2.2 Carl Zeiss lens and LED flash. Check out the video below from AT&T’s social media team for a rundown of the Lumia 900.

Nokia Lumia 900 Rumored April 8th Release

I may be the only one extremely frustrated here, but I had delusional fantasies back in November 2011 of get my hands on the new Lumia 900. As each Nokia event has passed I’ve been hoping for a release date that is at the most a month away. I really don’t understand what the holdup is but from the rumors around the web apparently the retailers are being trained to properly present the Lumia 900. A very Apple move if I might say.

A user on The Verge Forums who claims to be an AT&T employee says the date is April 8th. Despite the fact that I expected one a long time ago, I will still be buying one. At $99 you can’t argue, so I won’t! Keep a look out for an announcement regarding the release date in the coming month. I myself will most likely pre-order one in the “oh so sexy” Noble Press Cyan blue. Stay tuned for the review sometime this year…

A look inside at the Designing of the Beautiful Lumia 800 (Video)

The Lumia 800 is arguably the best designed phone on the market to date. The response to the Lumia 800 and 900 has been tremendous. I myself am eager to make the jump from iPhone 4s; in my opinion the previous best designed phone. The video shows the close collaboration between Nokia and Microsoft had in designing the phone, as well as some of the wax prototypes and wood moldings. Sit back and enjoy the brilliance that is the Lumia 800.

Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T for $99

According to Boy Genius Report the Nokia Lumia 900 will go on sale March 18th for $99 on AT&T. The Lumia 900 is a huge flagship phone for Nokia and Windows Phone 7. Nokia’s line up of handsets have been quoted as “the first real Windows Phone”, those words were passed on the heels the Lumia 800.

The Lumia 900 is a heavier hitter. Packing LTE 4G, a larger screen, more RAM, and a higher mega pixel camera. The Lumia 900 took “best of show” at CES this year. This phone is one of the first Windows phones that has me wanting to make the jump to WP7.

CES 2012 best of show : The Nokia Lumia 900

Well here it is, after a long anticipated wait Nokia has finally revealed their flagship smartphone. The final name for the phone is the Lumia 900. Nokia has built on its design of the N9 and the Lumia 800 bringing us a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen. The thickness of the phone stays relatively the same, although the bezel is less apparent in comparison to the Lumia 800.The Smartphone is also equipped with an 8MP Carl Zeiss lens and flash. The phone feels amazing in hand; my only issue is the absence of the curved “bubble like” screen that we find on the Lumia 800. The Lumia 900 will be available only on AT&T and will sport LTE.

No word on when it will be released, but if you really can’t wait the Lumia 800 is slated for release February 20th. I can’t help but think that that pushing the phone even farther out is a terrible approach. Either way there is a lot of hype for this phone and CES attendees were swooning over it. Count me in when the lines start for the Lumia 900, that phone is just too sexy to say no. Look to mid march for a possible release. The phone will be available through AT&T and your local Microsoft Store.

Specs:

  • 4.3-inch AMOLED, Pentile Matrix Display, WVGA (800 x 480) resolution
  • 217 pixels per inch
  • Corning Gorilla Glass
  • Front facing camera 1.3MP
  • AT&T LTE
  • Rear 8MP Carl Zeiss lens, dual led flash, 720p video
  • 1800mAh battery
  • 16GB
  • 512MB Ram
  • 5.6 oz
  • Width .045 inch  11.5mm
  • Qualcomm 1.4GHz single core

CES 2012: AT&T’s Nokia 4G LTE Lumia 900

Nokia has announced their newest smartphone that will be charging into the smartphone market with their first 4G LTE smartphone, The Lumia 900.

The Nokia Lumia 900 will be equipped with:

  • 4.3 inch black display
  • Black or Cyan device colors
  • 800x480 resolution touchscreen display
  • Poly-carbon coating providing durability
  • 1830 mAH battery power
  • 8 megapixel camera with a front and back Carl Zeis lens with a large aperture (F2.2) and wide angle focal length (28mm)
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • AT&T 4G LTE service provider

Steven Elop, President and CEO of Nokia, has stated that the phone’s storage space is currently unannounced and they are working together with Microsoft to provide consumers a phone with the capacity of 16gigs to 32gigs of memory at a price that will enter the market “aggressively” to gain early momentum.

“Nokia and AT&T worked hand in hand to bring the Nokia Lumia 900 to market. Our powerful 4G network really amplifies the benefits of the Nokia Lumia 900. Sharing high quality images and videos with its integrated social networking functions is faster than ever; content from U-verse Mobile is more enjoyable on the crisp 4.3-inch screen, and with its huge battery people can do more without worrying about recharging. Dark Knight Rises: Nokia Lumia 800 Limited Edition

Fanboys get ready to cream your selfs. Still on the heels of the Dark Knight Rises official poster. A Nokia limited edition Lumia 800 has risen. The handset will have an absurdly limited run of 40 devices. There is no word on when or where you will be able to obtain the device. My guess is if you have to ask you cannot afford/purchase one.

The device it self looks very similar to the standard Lumia 800 with the exception of a Batman logo etched into the back. On the software side we noticed themed live tiles. This will be an absolute relic in the eyes of bat fanboys all over.

Nokia & WP7: Bright Future ahead ?

I you like to keep a watchful eye on the mobile phone industry I’m sure you followed the Nokia World keynote on October 28th. All eyes were on Nokia, but did they deliver? If were talking the other side of the world excluding the United States then sure they had a bunch of subpar phones along with a very sexy high end phone modeled after the Nokia N900. Many industry enthusiasts were up and arms about the flagship phone dubbed the Lumia 800 that was shown, lots of mixed feelings but overall good buzz. It baffles me how skeptical locals were of a phone that isn’t even going to release in the states. If you’re asking yourself “why were we left out?” well the answer is Nokia isn’t ready for us yet. Over the years Nokia has dominated overseas but always suffered in one place, and that place is the good old USA.

I think everyone was so excited to see what Nokia had up their sleeve that they didn’t remember that there want supposed to be any such announcement of US release dates. This is all due to the fact that Nokia wants to hit the US market in a big way, the phones they debuted with the exception of the Lumia 800 wouldn’t hold up here in America. CEO of Nokia Steven Elop was quoted saying that Jan-Feb they will be unveiling a bevy of Nokia products to the US. My guess is the Lumia 800 will be a part of the US launch but not as the flagship phone and possibly the addition of a front facing camera.

The phone everyone is waiting to see is the rumored 4.3 inch 10-12MP Nokia phone, codenamed “Ace”. After seeing the Lumia 800 it’s hard to believe it can get any better. When reviewers and enthusiast got their hands on the Lumia 800, it was said that it rivaled if not ousted the iPhone 4S in design and feel. Me personally, this makes me very excited for the future of Nokia the Ace can only be better. The Lumia 800 already trumps the iPhone 4s as far as Shutter speed at 2.0 vs. iPhones 2.2 and claiming the title of fastest mobile phone camera in the land. So we’ve already seen that Nokia can deliver Apple grade quality products. The real question is can Nokia do it in time? The US phone market is a brutal one.

The people need to see what Nokia has to offer the US for there to be any hype, WP7 alone isn’t going to do that for it solely for the fact that your average everyday Joe has no idea what WP7 is. What it come down to is Nokia phones are going to be WP7’s ticket to success the platform is already there and its one of the best out their if not the best, but at the same time no one knows that there no shiny phone for people to pine over. Time is of the essence and if Nokia and WP7 are going to succeed they need to go big or go home. In light of what we have already seen I believe Nokia can single handedly turn around the Slump and lack of interest WP7 has in the market. Ask anyone out on the street if you could get a phone that’s as well designed and quality made as an iPhone most will tell you yes they are all for it.

It’s all about execution and timing if were in line to see something Jan-Feb when will we see a release? March April?  In my opinion if they want to make an impact they need to make an announcement and release same month in Apple fashion. I believe this time next year WP7 and Nokia will be real players in the US market, but this is only if they can deliver in time. The future is bright for WP7 and Nokia they need to just get some of their sexy phones in people’s hands already. Only time will tell if they will sink or swim, but given the great hardware Nokia can provide and the Huge amount of resources Microsoft can contribute all signs point to success. If they are able to replicate the tightly knit ecosystem iOS has going for it they truly can be in line for dominance.

I think right now is a vulnerable time for the Two companies especially Nokia and they are taking shots in the dark emerging as a new platform isnt easy but  they hold all the cards required to rise triumphant above all others. Give it 4 months and I think we’ll see everything really coming together they are very much in the beta phase right now but when it’s time to deliver I think we all will be impressed.  To be honest as a iPhone 4S owner myself nothing I see as of late impresses me not enough to leave the warm embrace of Apple not the Nexus prime, not the Droid bionic, not the insane 4-core android phone, only one really catches my eye and that’s the combination of WP7 and Nokia I strongly think only they can make me depart from the Apple bubble. A word of advice save your money people wait till early next year or just end up one of those people left in the Wake that is Nokia Windows Phone.
